Jordan Love, Utah State

There are some analysts (including this writer) who have Jordan Love slightly ranked above Herbert heading into the draft process, and there’s a big reason why: Love’s upside. Love has arguably more arm talent than Herbert, and that makes him the most interesting quarterback headed to the Senior Bowl.

Love had 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 2018 in Matt Wells’ offense, but his production slid and turnovers rose in 2019 (he finished with 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions). However, the coaching and scheme did not benefit him, and his 2018 tape cannot be discarded.

So what have we seen on tape? Love is a quarterback with a fantastic arm, and he made a great throw every week during the 2019 season. From brilliant touch passes 50 yards down the field to 20-yard lasers on the run, Love has a strong arm, great touch on the football, and can make plays on the right and off-platform.

The issue for Love right now is processing once the play begins and turnovers. If he can be coached to work through reads and understand defenses more, he could be a very good NFL quarterback. He needs to show off that arm talent live for scouts and GMs, and also show he can work through his reads down in Mobile, especially in uptempo drills and two-minute drills.
