Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB. Jacob Eason. player. 87. Georgia. 10

I don’t know if Jacob Eason is what Matt Rhule and Joe Brady have in mind, but I’m fascinated to find out what it is regardless of what they decide to do.

The big rumor floating around the NFL world right now is that Cam Newton will be traded this offseason by Carolina. Do you buy it?

If you think about it, it makes sense.

Matt Rhule is a first-time NFL head coach and Joe Brady is a first-year NFL offensive coordinator. Not that Cam Newton could not find a way to work with these guys, but the best direction for all involved might be to get a young signal caller in the mix who can grow with this new coaching staff and the centerpiece of the offense, Christian McCaffrey.

Jacob Eason may not be the safest bet in the draft, but he’s certainly talented and fearless throwing the football. The Panthers have to think that the combination they have of Rhule and Brady gives them the option of taking just about any young quarterback and putting them in position to succeed.

Maybe the Panthers will be more aggressive than this with a player they target if, indeed, they trade Newton. Perhaps they’ll be aggressive going after Joe Burrow, even.

Whatever they end up doing, they could be a landing spot for the strong-armed Eason who showed fearlessness attacking defenses downfield this past season at Washington.
