Detroit Lions 2020 NFL Draft: Pinpointing five logical first-round targets
Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn
If the Lions do not trade down and decide that Okudah is not for them, Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown stands out as an obvious target for the team. Brown is far-and-away the best interior defensive lineman in this draft class, showing the ability to come in and immediately contribute while also providing massive long-term value.
Brown has an incredible combination of power and athleticism up front. He is an incredible one-gap penetrator who explodes off of the snap immediately and consistently gets tremendous upfield burst. Brown shows an impressive quick swim move and does a great job of using his hands as a pass rusher.
While he certainly has plenty of upside as a one-gap penetrator and interior playmaker, Brown also shows the necessary strength and field awareness to two-gap at a high level. Brown can dominate when he is asked to pin his ears back and rush the passer, but he can also play smart, disciplined football and open up plays for his teammates.
Brown is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in the 2020 NFL draft class and he plays a position that is becoming more and more important by the year. I could see the Detroit Lions making him their guy at number three and would undoubtedly have him on their radar if they decide to trade back a few picks.
