Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama

During the Jaguars’ magical 2017 season, one of the unsung units on the league’s best defense were the safeties Tashaun Gipson and Barry Church. Well, two seasons later and both players are gone and the position has taken a big hit.

The Jaguars did draft Ronnie Harrison in the 3rd round in 2018, who would eventually be Church’s replacement, and he’s played well with little help. On the other side, however, the Jags need to find a better option than Jarrod Wilson, who is best suited for a rotational role rather than being a full-time starter.

Insert who I think is the best safety prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, Xavier McKinney, and all of a sudden you have two Bama boys on the back end that have a penchant for making big plays.

McKinney is constantly around the football and has the skills to lineup all-over the secondary. That versatility is what makes him perfect for a defense that is limited in terms of depth and I believe he would come in and immediately make an impact for the Jaguars.

While safety probably isn’t as pressing a need as corner and middle linebacker, it still has to be addressed in Jacksonville’s 2020 NFL Draft class and McKinney should be tops on their board at the position.
