2020 NFL Draft: 5 First round targets for Buffalo Bills
All the talk will be wide receiver leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, but what if the Buffalo Bills somehow address that position before the draft? Shaq Lawson is headed for free agency leaving a big hole at defensive end. Penn State’s Yetur Gross-Matos can fill right in for him.
I’ve heard some people say they aren’t sure if Gross-Matos can play right away, but that’s only if he’s not in the right system. Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott runs a base 4-3 scheme which allows his lineman to focus on one gap.
Yetur Gross-Matos is perfect in the aspect that he can put his hands in the dirt and attack the quarterback. Where he got in trouble was when he was asked to take on multiple gap responsibilities. That obviously won’t be the case in Buffalo.
Gross-Matos finished with nine sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. So, he definitely can get into the backfield and make plays. Buffalo’s sacks leader Jordan Phillips is set to be a free agent as well as Lawson, but I’d make Phillips the top priority.
Pairing Yetur Gross-Matos with Phillips and 2019 first-round pick Ed Oliver would make for a very solid unit. Phillips could command close to seven million a season, but he’s most definitely worth it. The potential sack numbers for the Bills defensive line could be well worth the payoff.
