2020 NFL Draft: 5 Prospects New York Giants could target with No. 4 pick
By Evan Bachman
I would be surprised if Thomas was the pick at number four just because I think there are better prospects available, but it’s a possibility and with Mike Remmers being a free agent this offseason offensive tackle could be a big need.
According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, “The real expectation from those inside the Giants’ building and outside it is that the Giants will look at edge-rushers, left tackles and wide receivers. Said one scout who worked with Gettleman previously, ‘He can’t help himself with linemen, so slot your top-rated offensive tackle there.'” I never know how much to trust draft buzz, but if that’s true Thomas certainly is in the mix.
Thomas is a good athlete, has solid size (6-foot-5, 320 pounds), long arms and pretty quick feet. He is good from a technical perspective in pass protection. He is quick to get set after the snap, plays loose, stays on his toes and he uses his hands first instead of his body. It’s hard to find plays on tape where he gets beat. He is also a good run blocker due to his strength. Overall, Thomas is a pretty safe projection to be at least an above-average starting tackle with pro bowl upside.
