2020 NFL Draft: 5 Prospects New York Giants could target with No. 4 pick
By Evan Bachman
The Giants cornerback situation was a complete disaster last season. Out of 123 qualified cornerbacks in the NFL they didn’t have a single cornerback grade within the top 100, according to Pro Football Focus. That includes last year’s first-round pick DeAndre Baker who had a horrible season, grading out at 48.4, which was tied for 113th.
The biggest problem is that the Lions are picking ahead of them and they need help at corner too and Jeff Okudah is the most likely pick for the Lions. However, selecting Okudah isn’t set in stone for the Lions, they could take another prospect like Derrick Brown or Isaiah Simmons or a team looking to secure their franchise quarterback could trade up with them.
Okudah has prototypical physical traits at the cornerback position. He has great size (6-foot-1, 200 pounds), long arms, and super athleticism. Coming into the season there was concern about Okudah’s ball skills, but he definitely put those to rest this season with three interceptions and many other great plays on the ball. Ultimately, Okudah could come in right away and be the number 1 corner for almost any team in the NFL and has All-Pro level upside.
New York Giants fans should cross their fingers and hope either the Lions go a different direction with their pick or trade the pick to a team looking to draft a quarterback. Okudah would be perfect for the Giants because he’s not only a superior talent, but he’d fill a major need.
