2020 NFL Draft: Alabama OT Jedrick Wills scouting report
Scouting Alabama offensive tackle and possible 2020 NFL Draft OT1 Jedrick Wills.
For a while now, Andrew Thomas has been considered by most to be the top offensive tackle in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, with his play this season, Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills has put himself in the conversation and could now be considered a possible top-five selection.
As the 2020 NFL Draft gets closer, these kinds of battles will continue to shake themselves out. However, make no mistake about it, Wills is undoubtedly a top-tier offensive tackle prospect who has a bright future at the next level.
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 320 pounds
Wills has been the starting right tackle at Alabama for the last two seasons. He consistently shined for the Crimson Tide in 2019 and was named a second-team All-American and first-team All-SEC. He is an extremely gifted offensive lineman who has obvious upside at the next level.
Wills is a big and powerful offensive tackle who is also quick off of the ball. He explodes off of the snap and fires out with a powerful punch. Wills shows incredible functional strength that particularly stands out in the run game. Once he gets his hands on the defender, it is game over.
While he is not the most explosive athlete in the class, Wills does move around fairly well. He shows enough foot quickness to consistently reach the second-level in the run game and attack linebackers and safeties under control. In pass protection, Wills may struggle at times against elite speed rushers on the edge, but he takes good angles and shows a strong accurate, punch.
He also shows the ability to hold his own and anchor at an elite level. Power rushers who come straight in and try to bull rush Wills are going to be severely disappointed. He will shut them down with his raw power.
Simply put, Jedrick Wills is an incredibly talented offensive tackle prospect who could be absolutely dominant at the next level. He should be able to hold his own in any offensive scheme, but would undoubtedly be a better fit for a gap-based rushing scheme. His raw power and strength are what particularly stand out, but do have the necessary athleticism to take care of his responsibilities at the next level.
Wills is a potential top-five selection who could easily end up being OT1 in the 2020 NFL Draft before it is all said and done.
