2020 NFL Draft: Who goes after Burrow, Young in first-round mock draft?
If I were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there is no way that I would bring back Jameis Winston at the $30 million per year that he is asking for. Winston can undoubtedly make plays with his arm, but he is far too loose with the ball which is shown by his 30 interceptions thrown this season. Simply put, if the Bucs want to become legitimate contenders going forward, they need to find a new answer at the quarterback position.
Justin Herbert is an extremely talented quarterback prospect who has an impressive combination of arm talent and accuracy to all fields. He is a mobile quarterback who throws on the run extremely well. Herbert and his big arm would be a great fit with Bruce Arians in Tampa Bay and would give them a legitimate quarterback prospect to build around.
Offensive tackle and cornerback are undoubtedly possibilities for the Denver Broncos here. That being said, we are going to give the quarterback Drew Lock a dynamic offensive playmaker with their first-round selection.
Henry Ruggs III is an extremely fast and explosive wide receiver prospect who can take it to the house from anywhere on the field. However, he is not just a speed demon who runs in a straight line fast. Ruggs also shows great short-area quickness, runs crisp routes and creates well after the catch. He is an elite deep threat who can also make plays in the short to intermediate range. Pairing Ruggs with Courtland Sutton would give Lock a tremendous 1-2 punch on the outside.
The Atlanta Falcons have Grady Jarrett locked up for the next few years, but they still lack ideal depth on the interior defensive line. With this pick, the Falcons bring in South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw.
Kinlaw is an extremely talented defensive tackle prospect who has an impressive combination of quickness and power on the interior. Kinlaw fires off of the ball with explosive burst and is incredibly powerful at the point of attack. He is a fantastic run defender and good pass rusher who has obvious upside at the next level.
If Grant Delpit is still around, he feels like a perfect fit for the Dallas Cowboys. Delpit is the premier safety prospect in the 2020 NFL draft class and undoubtedly has a bright future at the next level. His combination of size, speed and athleticism at the safety position is unrivaled. He is a tremendous man and zone coverage player who can make an impact on the game on the back-end or in-the-box.
Delpit has been an inconsistent tackler this season and that is obviously a concern. Honestly, based on pure ability and upside, Delpit should probably be a top 10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. That being said, his inconsistencies as a tackler could cause him to slip a bit. Here, he falls to the Cowboys at 17 who bring in a talented player at a major position of need.
This is the second of three first-round selections for the Dolphins in this 2020 NFL Draft scenario and here, they add LSU edge defender K’Lavon Chaisson. With an impressive combination of length, quickness and athleticism, Chaisson is an exciting defensive prospect who could quickly become a major centerpiece of the Dolphins’ rebuild.
Earlier in this mock draft, the Raiders brought in linebacker Isaiah Simmons. Simmons is an incredibly gifted defensive prospect who the Raiders can count on in any situation. Here, the Raiders continue to build their defense by drafting Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs.
Diggs is a big and athletic cornerback prospect who shines in press coverage. Diggs can be absolutely suffocating at the line of scrimmage and attacks the ball in the air extremely well. His speed and quickness are only average, but Diggs has the overall skill-set to quickly become a fantastic boundary corner at the next level.
The Jaguars received this pick from the Los Angeles Rams in the Jalen Ramsey trade. With this pick, the Jags look to replace Ramsey by bringing in Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson. Henderson is not an overly physical player and he does not offer much against the run. That being said, he is an extremely smooth and athletic cornerback prospect who shines in man-to-an coverage.
Henderson is not a perfect overall player, but make no mistake about it, this guy can defend wide receivers. When it comes to cornerbacks being able to make an impact, nothing is more important than coverage abilities.
The Philadelphia Eagles battled against injuries all season long and were still able to limp into the playoffs and put up a fight against the Seattle Seahawks. If the Eagles can just stay healthy next season, they should become legitimate Super Bowl contenders once again.
With their first-round selection in this 2020 NFL draft scenario, the Eagles bring in Alabama safety Xavier McKinney. Safety is not the biggest need on the Eagles’ roster, but his well-rounded skill-set would fit well with what they try to accomplish. McKinney is a smart and instinctive defensive back who shows great range on the back-end and fantastic overall ball skills. He is a strong deep zone defender who also shows strong ability in man coverage.
McKinney is also a strong in-the-box defender who tackles well in space and shows the ability to create pressure on the quarterback in the blitz game. McKinney is a jack-of-all-trades at the safety position who could come in and play a variety of roles for the Eagles on the defensive side of the ball.
The Buffalo Bills need to find a legitimate number one receiver for quarterback Josh Allen, and ideally, that guy would have some size. Tee Higgins has a massive catch radius and battles extremely well in contested-catch situations. Higgins is not the most advanced route runner and does not create much separation in any of his routes.
That being said, he rarely actually needs to. Higgins is a big and athletic receiver who seems to come down with everything. He also shows the ability to create a bit after the catch. His wide catch radius makes him a particularly interesting fit for the Bills as Allen does have legitimate accuracy issues. Higgins to Buffalo just makes a lot of sense.
