2020 NFL Draft: Who goes after Burrow, Young in first-round mock draft?
Here is where the 2020 NFL Draft really starts. Burrow and Young are both going to be off of the board and the Detroit Lions are going to have a difficult decision to make at number three. A trade down could be in consideration, but here, the Lions go with Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah.
Okudah is an extremely smooth and athletic cornerback prospect who has massive upside at the next level. He is a true lockdown cornerback in the making who should quickly grow into a player who teams will look to avoid. Okudah is an extremely smart and gifted defensive back who shines in both man and zone coverages. He is elite in coverage, plays strong against the run and has fantastic natural ball skills. This is not an easy choice, but Okudah is a worthy choice at No. 3.
Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. feels like a prospect that New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman is going to fall in love with. Gettleman loves big and powerful players up front and they simply do not come bigger and more powerful than Wills.
Three players could be considered worthy of the OT1 designation in the 2020 NFL draft class and Wills seems to be the early leader in the pack. Wills is a ridiculously powerful offensive lineman who consistently dominated opposing defenders at Alabama. He is an incredible run blocker who would consistently clear out holes for Saquon Barkley and is a strong pass protector as well. Wills feels like a great fit for the Giants.
Until we know for sure, I am going to assume that Tua Tagovailoa will not risk his body without getting paid for another year and will declare for the 2020 NFL Draft. If he were healthy, Tua would be a legitimate threat for the first overall pick. Since durability is a major concern, he is the biggest wildcard in the 2020 NFL draft class.
As long as his health checks out, I have a hard time believing that the Miami Dolphins would not take Tagovailoa is he is available. The risk is obvious, but his upside at the quarterback position is special. Adding Tua to the mix would give the Dolphins a true franchise cornerstone to build their team around.
The Los Angeles Chargers could certainly go with a quarterback here, but they need to consider taking an offensive tackle with a couple of worthy prospects at the position still on the board. Tristan Wirfs has had a strong career as a right tackle at Iowa and should be a top ten selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Wirfs is an extremely powerful player at the point of attack who can physically manhandle opposing defenders in the run game. He also gets off of the ball quickly and moves extremely well for a big offensive lineman. Wirfs’ combination of power and athleticism up front is special and gives him clear upside at the next level. Whether the Chargers draft him to play left or right tackle, Wirfs could come in and stabilize their offensive line situation.
