New England Patriots 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Now what?
I strongly considered giving the Patriots an offensive playmaker with this first-round selection, but they just took wide receiver N’Keal Harry last year and running back Sony Michel the year before. If the right player falls, I could see the Pats snagging an offensive playmaker for Brady here, but if not, an impact defender makes sense as well.
Yetur Gross-Matos has an impressive combination of size, length and athleticism on the edge, giving him obvious upside at the next level. Gross-Matos is extremely quick off of the ball, consistently shows fantastic upfield burst and can bend around the edge with ease. He also shows impressive overall hand usage and is developing a nice pass rush repertoire.
Gross-Matos is an impact defender who can create pressure on the outside, but I think he has enough size and power and to compete on the interior as well, especially in obvious passing situations. He is an exciting overall prospect who plays with a high motor and has some nice versatility up front. Gross-Matos feels like an ideal fit for the New England Patriots.
After trading their second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for Mohamed Sanu, the Patriots do not go back on the clock until the third round of this mock draft. With this pick, we try to find Brady an interesting offensive weapon to work with.
Quartney Davis shows impressive short-area quickness and easy acceleration in and out of his routes. He is an impressive overall route runner who can create separation against most corners in man coverage. He is also a smart receiver who has a knack for finding space against zone.
Patriots receivers struggled to create separation and get open for Brady all season long. Davis is an extremely talented player who fills an immediate need for this team. This feels like a strong third-round selection for the Pats.
