Michigan wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones has officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

This may sound like a broken record, but the upcoming receiver class continues to add talented names. Michigan wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones is the latest receiver to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft. Peoples-Jones made his announcement on Twitter Saturday afternoon, just three days after the Wolverines played in the Citrus Bowl against Alabama

Peoples-Jones joins a loaded class, and he’s probably a forgotten name or at least one that’s operated in the background all season long. The production really hasn’t been there for Peoples-Jones in his time for the Wolverines.

He passed 600 yards receiving just once in his three seasons and had just 34 catches for 438 yards in 2019. Peoples-Jones did post 14 touchdowns in his last two seasons. It’s hard not to attribute some of the production issues to the quarterback position for the Wolverines. Shea Patterson wasn’t the best quarterback to get receivers the football.

What does the tape say about Peoples-Jones? There’s definitely upside to his game. At 6-foot-2 and 208 pounds, he has good size, and has shown the high pointing ability and winning in contested spots. He’s a pretty fluid athlete for his size and has good hands and toughness.

It’s interesting to see Peoples-Jones declaring after three seasons. It’s clear the NFL is a big fan of Peoples-Jones and that he likely received a good grade from the advisory committee. The NFL is definitely higher on him than draft Twitter right now. Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller has Peoples-Jones in his top 35 right now.

The good news for Peoples-Jones is he will have the opportunity to show NFL teams what he brings to the table at the combine and Michigan’s pro day. If he tests well and shows his ability as a receiver, teams will line up to draft him based on the potential.
