Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young has officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.

It’s big news out of Columbus this morning. After their heartbreaking loss to Clemson, big-name underclassmen for the Ohio State Buckeyes will start to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft or announce their intent to return to school. The biggest name, edge rusher Chase Young, is officially in for the draft, as he announced on Twitter.

After 10.5 sacks as a sophomore, the expectations were sky-high for Young as he entered his junior season, and he delivered on all of it. Young had 16.5 sacks in 2019 in just 12 games, having missed two because of a suspension. He set the all-time sack record in Big Ten history and got to New York as a Heisman finalist. Young also finished his 2019 season with 21 tackles for loss, three passes defended, and seven forced fumbles.

Young enters the draft as the consensus top prospect in the class, and many believe he could be as good or better than Joey Bosa and Nick Bosa, two Ohio State pass rushers that came out in the last few seasons. He may not be at Myles Garrett level, but he’s elite nonetheless.

When it comes to his traits, there are so many good ones to cover. Young has great athleticism coming off the edge for 6’5″ and 265 pounds, and he shows that athletic ability by being able to bend around the edge with ease and create pressure. He can also with a deadly inside move with that athleticism. Young is good at swiping the hands of tackles so they can’t engage, and has the power to trim the edge and collapse the pocket. He’s also a very good run defender.

Expect Young to dominate the draft process and put up good athletic numbers at the combine or his pro day, and find himself in a position to be a top two or three selection. He is a favorite to go to Washington at number two overall.
