2020 NFL Draft: 5 prospects Cleveland Browns could target with No. 10 pick
By Evan Bachman
Isaiah Simmons may be long gone at this point in the draft, but if he’s available and Andrew Thomas is gone he should be the pick. Simmons could go as high as three and this is probably is floor, so if the Browns really want him they’ll probably have to trade up to get him.
The biggest weakness of the Cleveland Browns defense is at linebacker. Mack Wilson was a good value pick in the fifth round last year, but he shouldn’t be an every-down player in the NFL. Also, Joe Schobert is a free agent this offseason, which only amplifies the need.
Simmons was ACC defensive player of the year and the Dick Butkus Award winner this season. He’s recorded 97 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three interceptions.
Simmons is a prototypical linebacker in today’s NFL. He has excellent size (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) and athleticism. He is a converted safety and that is a big reason why he is so good in coverage, which is the most important aspect of linebackers in the modern NFL. He is also very good at both stopping the run and rushing the passer. That versatility to excel in all aspects of playing linebacker makes him easily the best linebacker in the draft.
