Rest of day three

5th round (compensatory): Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri

Tight end is not atop the Broncos’ needs list this offseason, but the opportunity to select a pass catcher of Okwuegbunam’s abilities on day three of the draft could be too tempting to pass up.

He caught a bunch of touchdown passes in his three seasons at Missouri, most of which were thrown by Drew Lock. I like the idea of the Broncos reuniting these two, even if Okwuegbunam is simply a depth piece to start.

6th round: Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest

Although he’s coming off of injury, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound Strnad is an intriguing athlete at the linebacker position with the ability to play back in coverage and give the Broncos a matchup player who can run with some of the great athletes they face at tight end every year.

7th round: Kevin McGill, CB, Eastern Michigan

The Broncos love corners with length and closing speed, and McGill has that. He’s raw in his overall skill set but he can break on the ball and make plays in zone coverage.

Overall, this draft class for the Broncos supports Lock by fortifying the offensive line depth, adding a playmamker at receiver, and bringing in secondary weapons like Najee Harris and Albert Okwuegbunam to supplement their offensive weaponry.

Defensively, the Broncos are able to get a major asset on the interior defensive line in Neville Gallimore and bring in a top reserve at safety in Alohi Gilman. They would also take a nice risk on a player like Strnad who could develop under Vic Fangio.
