Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama

Delpit may be the most obvious safety target for the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but he is not the only safety who should be on their radar. Xavier McKinney is an incredibly talented safety who would be worthy of the 17th pick should the Cowboys want to go in that direction.

McKinney is more of a deep safety prospect who shows tremendous range and ball skills on the back-end. He is a fantastic free safety who reads the opposing quarterback extremely well and understands where he needs to be on the field at all times.

While I like McKinney best as a deep safety, he shows the ability to make an impact all over the field. He is a fantastic man coverage defender who can hold his own against most tight ends, running backs and even slot receivers. McKinney has also shown the ability to come up and support against the run and has even shown some serious pass rush ability in the blitz game.

In Woods, the Dallas Cowboys already have a versatile safety prospect who can make an impact all over the field. However, Woods is probably best used as an in-the-box safety. McKinney can also do it all, but he is best used as a deep safety who helps protect over the top. Having both Woods and McKinney in the lineup would allow the Cowboys the ability to be extremely creative with their secondary. Both players have strengths but can make an impact all over the field.
