2020 NFL Draft: 5 prospects New York Jets could target with No. 11 pick
GM Joe Douglas should run this pick in if Jedrick Wills Jr. is still on the board when they pick at 11. Sam Darnold has proven to be a talented quarterback when he has time to throw. When he’s running for his life trying to make something out of nothing is when we see the turnovers and mind-boggling decisions.
Although Wills was a right tackle in college he was actually protecting Tua Tagovailo’s blindside since Tua is a left-handed quarterback. Wills biggest strength is in the run game, but he’s no slouch in pass protection either.
The Jets need a ton of improvements on the offensive line and the Alabama product would be a big upgrade over anyone they already have. If Adam Gase would make an emphasis on the run game with Le’Veon Bell, Wills would be a great lead blocker to run behind.
Ultimately there’s no telling what the offseason will bring for the New York Jets. There will be long evaluations for every position and upgrades will be made in free agency as well. Who the Jets target in the draft will be dictated by who and what positions they add in free agency.
With reports that Anderson will test free agency and the rich free-agent class of offensive lineman, my best guess would be that Douglas would aggressively pursue offensive line in free agency. That would leave the Jets’ primary need at wide receiver. This offseason will be interesting, to say the least.
