2020 NFL Draft: Kenneth Murray benefits from Dylan Moses’ decision
The 2020 NFL Draft is not overly deep at linebacker and Oklahoma’s Kenneth Murray could benefit greatly from Dylan Moses returning to Alabama.
The 2020 NFL Draft is deep at a number of positions, but inside linebacker is not one of them.
Most felt that Alabama’s Dylan Moses was the top inside linebacker eligible for this class even though he suffered an injury before the 2019 season even started. Moses is certainly talented, but he’s now returning to Alabama for another year instead of banking on teams still believing he’s the most talented player in this crop at his position.
With Moses going back to Alabama for another year, there may be no bigger benefactor than Oklahoma junior linebacker Kenneth Murray.
Murray has been awesome for the Sooners’ defense, though clearly that unit isn’t coming off of its best game against LSU. Murray has 257 total tackles over the past two seasons and 325 total tackles in his three seasons at Oklahoma
He has also added 36.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, and six pass breakups.
Murray has so many of the qualities you look for in a linebacker prospect, including intangibles and instincts. He can attack the line of scrimmage exceptionally well, evidenced by his 36.5 tackles for loss in three seasons (17 this year).
Murray plays all three downs and has the type of attitude on the field to be a ‘heart and soul’ kind of guy for his team.
This guy is always around the football, and Dylan Moses’ decision to go back to school for another year could elevate Murray not only into the first round (where he may have already been) but possibly get teams bidding for him.
Murray’s ability to diagnose plays and attack the line of scrimmage is awesome to watch, but it’s his play speed that really sets him apart from the other linebackers eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft.
He is aggressive in taking on blocks and has the strength to work off of them in the trenches.
This guy just embodies what you want in a linebacker prospect. He plays with no fear, he’s obviously a guy who prepares well, and he loves to hit. He will be an asset for an NFL team and could be the first off-ball linebacker (depending on your classification for Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons) off the board.
