Building the Washington Redskins with a complete seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft.

The Washington Redskins fought hard but came up short this week, losing to the New York Giants 41-35 in overtime. While the Washington players and coaches clearly wanted to win the game, taking the loss was undoubtedly better for the franchise.

That loss coupled with the Giants win vaults the Washington Redskins to the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Unless they upset the Dallas Cowboys on the road next week, Washington will hold onto that second pick.

The Cincinnati Bengals secured the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Sunday and they will likely take LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with that selection. Burrow is a fantastic quarterback prospect who seems like the perfect guy to lead the Bengals into the future. This leaves an interesting decision for the Redskins at number two. The way I look at it, there are three potential options for this team.

The most obvious choice is edge rusher Chase Young. Young is considered by most to be the top prospect in the 2020 NFL draft class and while edge rusher is not really a position of need for the Washington Redskins, nobody would blame them for taking a premier talent like Young.

I could envision a scenario where the Redskins take a franchise left tackle. Either Georgia’s Andrew Thomas or Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs could make some sense here. I like both Thomas and Wirfs as prospects, but either player would be a bit of a reach at number two overall.

This one may seem like a reach, but I could see the Washington Redskins taking a chance on Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. If whoever the Redskins end up hiring as their new head coach does not believe in Dwayne Haskins, I could see a Josh RosenKyler Murray scenario playing out here. This would obviously also depend on the health of Tagovailoa’s hip and whether the Redskins’ doctors would clear him medically.

Regardless of who the Washington Redskins take in the first round, if they want to turn their fortunes around, they need to hit on multiple picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Here, we are going seven rounds deep with the Redskins and try to solve as many of their issues as we can.
