Bengals lock up No. 1 pick in 2020 NFL Draft with loss to Dolphins
After their loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Cincinnati Bengals now hold the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
We figured it would happen, but now it is official. After their 38-35 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Cincinnati Bengals will officially hold the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Even if the Bengals take down the Browns next week, they will still have a choice of any prospect in the 2020 NFL draft class.
It has undoubtedly been a disastrous season for the 1-14 Bengals. Their defense has been terrible and their offense has been even worse. They benched quarterback Andy Dalton early in the season, but when back to him when rookie Ryan Finley did not show any sort of promise. This is a franchise that is in need of a reset and having the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft will certainly help.
LSU quarterback and recent Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow is far-and-away the most likely pick for the Bengals at number one. Burrow has been absolutely incredible this season and would be the perfect player for Cincinnati to build their franchise around. That being said, they will remain open-minded and have their eyes on other players.
Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young may be under consideration, but with quarterback being such an obvious need for the Bengals, I would be surprised to see them take a defender. If Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa receives a completely clean bill of health from the Bengals doctors, I suppose he could be under consideration as well. That being said, Tagovailoa’s health and durability make him an unnecessary risk with a guy like Burrow on the board.
Burrow is extremely likely to be the guy for Cincinnati and they have now put themselves in a position to bring him in as their franchise signal-caller. It has been tough to watch the Bengals this season, but Burrow is a fantastic quarterback prospect who could make this awful season a blessing in disguise.
