player. Pick Analysis. A.J. Epenesa. Edge. Iowa. 12. 44. Scouting Report

The Atlanta Falcons were very much in the top five conversation at the middle of the season, but head coach Dan Quinn has had them playing inspired football down the stretch, especially in road wins over the Saints and 49ers. There’s a good chance we see Quinn coaching this team in 2020. However, if he wants to keep his job, this team needs to improve with good selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.

It starts by finding someone who can rush the passer. Vic Beasley has had just one good season in his time with Atlanta and hasn’t been the same since, while Takk McKinley hasn’t developed enough beyond a speed rusher. It’s time to find a capable rusher on the edge, and A.J. Epenesa is waiting for them.

Epenesa is far and away EDGE2 in the 2020 NFL Draft right now, and it’s clear to see why. There were high expectations for him coming into the 2019 season for the Hawkeyes, but it didn’t start out well. It was tough that he wasn’t filling up the stat sheet, but he was creating pressure. It was great to see Epenesa finishing plays down the stretch in big games, especially against Minnesota.

The Falcons would be a great spot for Epenesa, and his ability to rush from the interior will spice up that defense.
