Chicago Bears complete seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft
After making their two second-round picks, the Chicago Bears do not go back on the clock again until the fifth round of this mock draft. While this roster has too many needs to significantly invest in a new quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft, I would not mind seeing them go after some upside on day three. With the selection of Anthony Gordon with their first of three fifth-round picks, that is exactly what they do.
Gordon has put up monster numbers this season, completing 72 percent of his passes for 5,228 yards, 45 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His numbers are obviously inflated due to the Air Raid offense that he operates, but you simply cannot ignore that kind of production. When it comes to Gordon as an NFL prospect, he is much more than a guy who put up numbers.
Gordon has an extremely strong arm and has shown great accuracy when he gets time to operate. If Gordon has time to set his feet and make a strong throw, he will put the ball where it needs to be more often than not. If he is rushed, it could go anywhere. He is also a good athlete who shows some nice pocket presence. Gordon feels pressure well and understands how to maneuver in the pocket to get off a clean throw.
The high number of turnovers are a concern and are mostly due to decision-making. Gordon does struggle to progress through his reads and tends to force throws that he simply should not make far too often. If he doesn’t clean this up, he is unlikely to ever become anything more than a backup, but the raw skills are in place for him to become a legitimate starting quarterback option down the line. He is a guy worth taking a shot on in this range.
Trevon Hill is a quick and athletic edge rusher who has some nice upside at the next level. He anticipates the snap well and gets off of the ball quickly. He consistently shows good upfield burst and can bend around the edge a bit. When Hill gets some room, he can kick it into high gear and close on the quarterback quickly.
Hill is a pure speed rusher who needs to add some real functional strength in order to make a major impact at the next level. That being said, his pass-rush upside is obvious and makes him worth taking a shot on in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
