Los Angeles Chargers

As I have said many times before, Phillip Rivers is not the answer. The current offensive talent is wasted and the defense is being put into bad situations. The fanbase is non-existent and the team is in disarray. A new identity needs to be established and Herbert could be the one to do it.

With the new quarterback leading the way, Herbert’s big arm will be more than welcome for targets Keenan Allen and Mike Williams who will now be able to stretch the field. Hunter Henry and Austin Ekeler will act as safety blankets for Herbert. Running back Melvin Gordon will split snaps with Ekeler but will need to provide consistent running between the tackles and ball security, which has emerged as an issue this season.

Similarly to the Detroit rebuild plan, this will be based on forming a roster around a cheap quarterback and using the additional cap room to acquire pieces to complement the young quarterback. Ball control will need to be a major teaching point for Herbert, reversing the turnover issues which have plagued the 2019 Chargers.

When Herbert is drafted to Los Angeles, Rivers will be gone and Charger’s management can choose to either start him from day one or bring in a veteran to start while the rookie learns and develops. Wide receiver Mike Williams will become the new focal point of the offense, using his big frame to stretch the field and create chunk gains.
