Atlanta Falcons 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Free of Freeman
The Falcons have had a ton of struggles defending the pass the last two seasons and while their lack of a pass rush should certainly get some of the blame, they still need to continue stockpiling young talent in their secondary if they are going to improve.
That makes Utah’s Jaylon Johnson an easy choice with the 44th overall pick in this 2020 NFL mock draft.
Johnson doesn’t have the name recognition of some of the other defensive backs in this draft class but he was the top cover man on a Utah defense that allowed just 185 yards through the air per game and gave up just 13 passing touchdowns the entire year.
In three seasons with the Utes, Johnson racked up elite numbers batting down 21 passes, nabbing 7 interceptions and returning 2 of those for touchdowns, proving to be one of the most dangerous guys to throw at in the entire country. He ended the season with an 85 overall coverage grade (per PFF) and was voted First-Team All-Pac-12 in back-to-back years.
Johnson has good size, can make big plays when they’re there to be made and plays a physical brand of football that the Falcons could really use outside.
