Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas declares for the 2020 NFL Draft
Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas has officially declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.
One of the best prospects for the 2020 NFL Draft has declared. Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas is officially in for 2020, as the Bulldog announced on Twitter. He also announced in his post that he won’t be playing in Georgia’s bowl game.
Thomas started at left tackle in all 13 regular-season games for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was named a first-team All-American at tackle this season.
There’s a reason that Thomas is considered a top pro prospect. He’s been a top performer protect Jake Fromm‘s blindside all season long against top competition in the SEC. Battling and playing well against the likes of Auburn’s Marlon Davidson, Florida’s Jonathan Greenard, and LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson helped solidify his position as a top 10 player in the 2020 NFL Draft and a potential top 10 selection come April.
When it comes to scouting Thomas, there’s so much to dissect from his game that translates to the NFL. He is an excellent player in the run game. Thomas gets out of his stance quickly and has a ton of upper and lower body strength to move defenders off balance and creating openings. He can also get out in space and make key blocks at the second level of the defense.
As a pass protector, something that is vital for tackles on either side, Thomas excels. His ability to get out of his stance quickly gives him an advantage against top edge rushers. Thomas has great hand placement to keep rushers off balance and maintain leverage while also having great footwork to mirror rushers and keep them in front of him.
Thomas does struggle at times with speed rushers when they get a good jump, but he can recover with good technique and strong hands.
He may not have the ceiling of top tackles in recent seasons, but his extremely high floor and good technique make him a lock for the top 10 picks.
