Ashtyn Davis, S, California

The safety group is intriguing down in Mobile, but the name that headlines the group is California safety Ashtyn Davis. Davis led the way for the Bears defense as a senior, and put up 55 tackles, two interceptions, four passes defensed, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 2019.

Davis has gotten the attention of many scouts and analysts already this season. He’s a very rangy safety on the back end with plenty of speed to play on the back end of a defense, which can be attributed to his background in track. He doesn’t shy away from contact either, and he can fly downhill and make plays.

That track speed intrigues a ton of teams, and Nagy said on the show today that teams may want to see Davis play some corner down there. It would be great to see if Davis can hang with receivers, and the Senior Bowl receiver group will provide plenty of challenge for him.

Davis is already a fringe first round prospect, and is going early on day two in a lot of mock drafts. If he has a strong week at safety and can show potential at corner, there’s no doubt he can sneak into the first round.
