2020 NFL Draft: Todd McShay’s ideal Arizona Cardinals mock draft pick
The Arizona Cardinals have their future at QB in Kyler Murray. ESPN’s Todd McShay has the perfect mock draft pick for them in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Arizona Cardinals have struggled as a team in year one of the Kliff Kingsbury/Kyler Murray era, but this is undoubtedly a team with a bright future if they can continue to put the right pieces around the former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback.
ESPN’s Todd McShay released a first-round mock draft to the public which featured a whopping eight wide receivers in the first round, and the Cardinals were one of the teams to take one.
Although McShay has the Cardinals getting the second receiver off the board, if things fall this way next Spring it might just be the ideal situation for Arizona.
McShay has the Cardinals taking Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, one of the top playmakers in the country in 2019. As a matter of fact, Lamb has been torturing opposing defenses since he stepped on campus at Oklahoma, catching 46 passes from Baker Mayfield in 2017, 65 passes from Murray last year, and 58 passes (so far) from Jalen Hurts in 2019.
Lamb’s production is obviously outstanding, but every reception of his tells a story. This guy isn’t just getting 32 touchdowns on bubble screens and deep balls. He’s proven himself to be one of the top players at wide receiver in all of college football at the catch point, after the catch, and winning before the ball is even thrown as a route runner.
With the Cardinals expected to air it out with Kingsbury and Murray at the helm, there may not be a more perfect fit than Lamb at receiver in round one.
He’s going to obviously come in with chemistry with Murray, who was his quarterback during Murray’s Heisman season at Oklahoma. Lamb is also going to give the Cardinals a dynamic weapon who can stretch the field, make plays after the catch, and create opportunities for those around him.
At this point, there’s no certainty that Lamb will even be around if the Cardinals have the sixth overall pick. As staff writer AJ Fagerlin explores, Lamb could be the WR1 of the upcoming draft for some teams, depending on what kind of skillset they value the most.
It will be fascinating to see how NFL teams prioritize these receiver prospects, and it’s unquestionably a year with multiple “WR1” types. Lamb is one of those and he would be a tremendous fit in Arizona, reuniting with Kyler Murray.
