Any team who hires Ravens OC Greg Roman as new HC

After designing an offense that enabled Lamar Jackson to rise to the heights of prospective league-MVP, Greg Roman will be one of the most vied for coaching talents on the open market. Jalen Hurts should be hoping he can find himself on the same team as Roman, who can apply the same scheme to Hurts as he did to Jackson.

Lamar did take a massive leap between his rookie and sophomore years, completely changing his quality of play from inside the pocket and opening the conventional part of the playbook to Roman. Hurts will need to focus on a similar development path by refining his play inside the pocket, and avoiding unnecessary wear & tear from contact on rushing attempts.

Hurts will also need to fix his pocket awareness, and develop a better feel for pressure and soft-spots within the pocket. Reading the field is a basic developmental step that will come with time for Hurts, and should be treated the same as any other rookie quarterback.

What has made Lamar Jackson so successful outside of Roman’s system has been the combination of personnel collected by Baltimore for the past seasons. A stable of three, differing talent, tight ends, receivers who stretch the field vertically, and a powerful grinding running back have all complimented Jackson in his rise to glory. Hurts would perform best with a similar setup focus around the power-run and subsequent counter-punch.
