2020 NFL Draft: CeeDee Lamb is WR1 in this first-round mock draft
One of the most overlooked players in the country is Alabama receiver, Devonta Smith. While Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III get all the attention as dynamic playmakers and top 15 picks, Smith has been the most productive receiver of the trio.
Smith has 1,200 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns this year, both top on the team. That is an average of 100 yards and just over one touchdown per game. Smith is incredibly reliable with a knack for finding open space in the defense. He has great hands and great body control. He is a very sound route runner with underrated big-play ability.
With the surge of passing prowess from likely NFL MVP Lamar Jackson this season, he can only get better with better weapons to throw to. He loves his tight ends and has a good connection with 2019 first-round pick Marquise “Hollywood” Brown when he’s out there, but beyond that, there aren’t many playmakers on the outside for Jackson to throw to. With Brown taking the top off and Mark Andrews and Devonta Smith eating underneath, the potent Ravens offense would become even harder to stop, if that is even possible.
There have been talks that Smith plans to return to Alabama for his senior season. If he does while Jeudy and Ruggs enter the draft, I would expect Smith to have a monster year. I think he should be a first-round pick either way, but if he has a year as the true number one receiver at Alabama there’s no telling how far he’ll fly up draft boards for next year.
Last but not least are the San Francisco 49ers. What a turnaround they have been able to accomplish. It wasn’t long ago that the Niners seemed to have a top-five pick year after year. But GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have done a magnificent job of turning this franchise around and making them legitimate Super Bowl contenders this season.
Again, this is a roster that does not have many weaknesses. The main thing that stood out to me was the interior of the offensive line. It is currently composed of a few guys that did not work out elsewhere but managed to find a role in San Francisco.
Center Weston Richburg, who spent the first few years of his career with the Giants, recently suffered a torn pec muscle and is out for the season. Boy, they could sure use Tyler Biadasz right now.
Biadasz was just given the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best center. Biadasz is an incredible leader for one of the best offensive lines in the country and is an animal in the trenches. With a wrestling background, Biadasz knows how to use leverage and center of gravity to move larger opponents. He is tough as nails and finishes blocks all the way to the ground.
At the very least, Biadasz would provide some depth on the Niner offensive line, and could develop into a starter in the future. I think he is good enough to go onto most rosters and earn the starting center spot. His combination of grit, passion, toughness and ability is unmatched in the 2020 NFL Draft class, and Tyler Biadasz should absolutely be a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
