Scouting Report. Joe Burrow. 56. Pick Analysis. Quarterback. LSU. 1. player

This pick is looking more and more likely and honestly, Joe Burrow is starting to look like the true number one prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft. Chase Young is a monster, no doubt about it, but facing double and triple teams lately, he hasn’t been able to make quite the impact that he had earlier in the season. Burrow is showing that no one can slow him down.

Burrow’s performance in the SEC Championship game was marvelous. He picked apart a very good Georgia defense and made it look easy. He displayed his incredible pocket presence and showed his ability to make just about every throw imaginable.

While Burrow isn’t the flashiest quarterback prospect in recent history, he may be the most well-rounded and consistent that we have seen in some time. He may not have elite arm strength but he is capable of making every throw with zip. He isn’t the best running quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft but he can do some damage with his legs when he escapes the pocket.

Burrow is such a cerebral quarterback prospect. His pre-snap reads and post-snap progressions are top-notch. He is almost always able to find an open receiver because he understands the defense and how his weapons are going to attack them. Then if for whatever reason the scheme doesn’t get someone open quickly, Burrow is great at buying time and trusting his receivers to find open space.

The Bengals clearly need to find their quarterback of the future. We’ve known for years now that Andy Dalton is not that guy, and after a short trial run this season, it appears that Cincy does not believe Ryan Finley is the answer either.

Burrow grew up in Ohio and the Bengals may get to coach him in the Senior Bowl. If they are exposed to him early in the 2020 NFL Draft process, I would expect them to fall in love with him.

His moxie and work ethic are incredible. He certainly has a chip on his shoulder and is out to prove many people wrong about him. Being a senior, Burrow has been around the game for a good amount of time and has gained enough valuable experience to transfer to the next level. On the other hand, as a two-year starter who just came into his own this season, Burrow is nowhere near his ceiling.

More coaching, instruction, time in the film room and time on the field will only make him better and better in the years to come. The Bengals cannot pass on the opportunity to draft Joe Burrow with the first pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
