2020 NFL Draft: CeeDee Lamb is WR1 in this first-round mock draft
The need for the Philadelphia Eagles has been blatantly clear all season. They need a cornerback that can cover an NFL wide receiver. This past Monday’s monster game from Darius Slayton was just the latest edition of the Philly secondary woes saga. They have been atrocious all year and have to address the position in some way if they want to win games.
There is a reason the Eagles were linked to every corner that hit the trade rumor mill this deadline. After failing to make a move, The Eagles are paying the price. The NFC East is right there for them to grab, but they have not shown the ability to stop opposing passing games and have struggled to win games against the league’s worst teams.
Kristian Fulton is a guy that would come in and be the best corner on the roster. Fulton is incredibly physical at the line of scrimmage and throughout the receiver’s route, staying glued to his man and making a play when the ball arrives. He has solid technique with fluid hips in man coverage and packs a powerful punch when in press.
His ball skills and instincts continue to improve when in zone, but he has the speed and quickness to make up ground in a hurry to disrupt a play. Playing in the SEC, Fulton has faced a ton of talented receivers, including a very potent trio on the other side of the field in his own team’s practice.
Fulton has the potential to be a true lockdown corner in the NFL. That is something the Eagles are very clearly lacking right now. Most of the Eagles defensive backs are serviceable right now, but none of them have broken through and proven to consistently shut down opposing receivers. The Eagles will have to hope they can find that guy in free agency or the 2020 NFL Draft, and I like Fulton’s chances of filling that role if selected.
