2020 NFL Draft: CeeDee Lamb is WR1 in this first-round mock draft
This pick has been pretty consistent for me as well. It is pretty clear that Phillip Rivers isn’t doing the Chargers many favors this year and the time to move on may be sooner than later. The Chargers have a handful of very talented playmakers on offense as well as a solid defense, when healthy. They just need a quarterback that can consistently find these weapons across the field and keep the ball out of the other team’s hands.
Justin Herbert may have been the first pick in the draft last year if he had decided to enter. He opted to return to Oregon for his senior season and has been very impressive once again in 2019. Herbert has arguably the most talented arm in the 2020 NFL Draft and has proven to be productive every year as a starter for the Ducks.
Unlike Rivers at this point in his career, Herbert can make every single throw that you can imagine. While his play-to-play consistency is still improving as a passer, Herbert has a rocket for an arm and can get the job done. Herbert and the Ducks just dashed the Playoff hopes of the Utah Utes in the PAC 12 Championship Game, showing that he can lead his team to important victories.
As a senior and four-year starter at Oregon, Herbert has gained a ton of valuable experience and has shown improvement year after year. This season, Herbert has thrown 32 touchdowns and just five interceptions, totaling over 3,000 passing yards for the second consecutive season.
I’m not sure what’s not to like about Herbert. He has optimal size for an NFL quarterback, possibly the strongest arm in the 2020 NFL Draft class, consistent production at a high level of play in college and four valuable years of experience. He could come in and immediately make the Chargers legitimate playoff contenders.
