2020 NFL Draft: CeeDee Lamb is WR1 in this first-round mock draft
This pick has been pretty consistent throughout my mocks to this point, at least in terms of the position. If the New York Jets are on the clock in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and one of the top two offensive tackle prospects are on the board they have to take them. In this case, Andrew Thomas is gone but Tristan Wirfs is all theirs.
Tristan Wirfs is a massive man who can move mountains. With a prototypical frame for an NFL offensive tackle, Wirfs has the strength to be a force in the run game and the athleticism and technique to be an effective pass blocker.
Wirfs is a well-rounded tackle prospect who has played both left and right tackle for the Hawkeyes. As a left tackle, Wirfs may not be quite as polished as Thomas but he has similar talent and potential. Not only are they both reliable blindside protectors, but they both may be even better as run blockers.
Both Sam Darnold and LeVeon Bell would love to see Tristan Wirfs walk into their locker room. For Darnold to develop he has to be able to trust his offensive line. He has shown that if he has time, he is capable of playing at a very high level. However, if he keeps getting pressured at this rate it really could stunt his growth.
Bell would love to see a few more open run lanes when the ball is handed to him as well. With his patience as a runner and Wirfs dominance as a run blocker, the pair could lead to more production in the next few years from Bell, Darnold and the talented Jets offense.
