Jaylon Johnson enters the 2020 NFL draft class, improving an already impressive group of cornerbacks.

On Friday, Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson announced that he will skip his senior season and enter the 2020 NFL Draft. Johnson is a gifted cornerback prospect who makes an already loaded class at the position even better.

Ohio State cornerback Jeffrey Okudah is considered by most to be the top cornerback in the 2020 NFL draft class. After Okudah, guys like LSU’s Kristan Fulton and Alabama’s Trevon Diggs are also likely first-round selections. After that, there is a group of interesting cornerbacks who could certainly become strong starting options on the outside. Johnson now joins that group and is a legitimate threat to end up going in the first round.

Johnson is listed at 6-foot, 195 pounds, but it is his length on the outside that really stands out. Johnson has long arms and he knows how to use them well, sticking wide receivers with strong press skills at the line of scrimmage and expertly knocking the ball away in coverage. He is a strong athlete for his size, showing good speed and quickness and a willingness to go up and fight for the ball.

He is also an extremely physical player who consistently makes life tough on opposing receivers. Johnson will jam them at the line of scrimmage and remain physical with the receiver throughout the play. This may lead to some issues with penalties at the next level, but Johnson is a smart player who can adapt.

Johnson will likely be battling with fellow cornerbacks like Shaun Wade, C.J. Henderson, Paulson Adebo and Jeff Gladney for a spot in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. These guys are all talented players who should be considered potential first-round selection. However, this is such a deep class of cornerbacks, do not be surprised to see a few of these guys slip.

Will Johnson’s decision to declare backfire as the depth of the cornerback class causes him to fall down the board or will a team fall in love with his game and make him a first-round pick?
