1. 56. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB. LSU. Joe Burrow. player

At this point, this one seems pretty easy. If the 2020 NFL draft order holds true, the Cincinnati Bengals are extremely likely to take a quarterback with the first overall pick. Passing on Chase Young will not be easy, but if you need a franchise quarterback and are in a position to get one, you cannot give up that opportunity. LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is the pick here.

If it were not for the season-ending hip injury that Tua Tagovailoa suffered a couple of weeks ago, this would likely be a conversation between Tua and Burrow heading all the way up into the 2020 NFL Draft. However, there is just too much unknown surrounding his hip injury. Justin Herbert may find himself in the conversation, but Burrow is the obvious choice.

Burrow has taken his game to the next level this year. He has been the best quarterback in college football this season and is the obvious favorite to take home the Heisman Trophy. He has led LSU to an incredible season and could be the guy to bring the Bengals back to relevance.

For me, Burrow’s work in the pocket immediately stands out. He is not an elite athlete at the quarterback position, but he is quick, elusive and senses pressure well. Burrow is not going to be a significant playmaker outside of the pocket, but his mobility in the pocket is impressive.

He is also an extremely smart quarterback who rarely makes a wrong decision. Burrow understands how to read through his progressions and simply does a great job of finding the open man.

Most importantly, Burrow shows fantastic accuracy to all levels. He understands where each pass needs to be made and has the combination of accuracy, touch and arm talent to get it there. Burrow can make any throw on the football field and he places the ball with precise accuracy most of the time.

Last, but not least, Burrow’s personality should fit well in Cincinnati. He is an extremely brash and confident individual who backs it up with his play. The Bengals need a guy like Burrow who can lead them with his confidence and his play on the field. This franchise undoubtedly needs a reboot and Burrow is the right guy to lead them into the future.
