52. Pick Analysis. S. Grant Delpit. player. Scouting Report. LSU. 8

The Jags have many holes to fill and improving their coverage unit after trading Jalen Ramsey is a top priority.

Delpit is one of three candidates for the Jim Thorpe award this year, given to the best defensive back in the nation. Through 11 games this season, he has recorded 53 tackles, two picks, and six passes defended. Last season, he made a real name for himself finishing as a consensus All-American as he had 74 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, nine passes defended, and five interceptions.

According to drafttek.com, “(Delpit) is the epitome of a do-it-all safety. In coverage, he shows feet that make me think he could play corner if asked to do so. Delpit’s footwork is quick and precise, helping him change direction promptly.”

“He gets into his back-pedal quickly then sinks his hips, and accelerates hard downhill.  Delpit also wastes no time identifying his target in zone coverage.  He scans his area and breaks on what he sees.  Delpit’s ability to accelerate also makes him dangerous when he gets his eyes on the quarterback.  He flows with the quarterback’s eyes and jumps the route.”

He has had some issues with missed tackles, but his abilities in coverage give him legitimate top 10 value.
