2020 NFL mock draft: Burrow or Young at No. 1? How far does Tua fall?
By Evan Bachman
The Falcons have to be one of the most interesting teams in the NFL. They beat the Saints 26-9, then proceeded to lose the Buccaneers only two weeks later. This a team that does have talent with guys like Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Austin Hooper, Deion Jones and Grady Jarrett leading the way. However, despite having elite players, they are weak in a lot of areas, so there’s a lot of places they could go with this selection in the 2020 NFL mock draft.
With Adrian Clayborn and Vic Beasley being free agents this offseason, that creates an even bigger need for a pass rush that’s only had 18 sacks this season.
A.J. Epenesa has the tools to be an elite power rusher at the next level. He has massive size (6-6, 280 lbs) and strength and is very far off from reaching his potential. Fifth overall may seem like a bit of reach but with the Falcons need for the pass rush and Epenesa’s talent, they are a great fit. Fans may have to be patient with Epenesa’s development but he has all-pro level potential.
This is just his first year starting but he’s still been very productive throughout his career. In 36 games over the past three seasons, he has logged 24 sacks, including 10.5 last year and nine so far this year.
