2020 NFL mock draft: Burrow or Young at No. 1? How far does Tua fall?
By Evan Bachman
With a pretty complete roster and a great coach, the only thing really holding the Colts back from being Super Bowl contenders is Jacoby Brissett. He is a legitimate starting quality quarterback but he’s also holding them back.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Colts would take a shot on a Jalen Hurts, Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm or Jordan Love in an attempt to find an upgrade over Brissett. It’s a possibility, but I think it’s more likely they try it in the second round.
Instead of quarterback, they fill another need at defensive interior, taking Auburn defensive tackle Derrick Brown with the 17th pick of this 2020 NFL mock draft.
According to PFF, Brown has, “34 total pressures, five sacks, 10 QB hits and 19 more hurries while he batted four passes at the line, made 34 defensive stops and 41 total tackles without a single missed tackle attempt to his credit this year.”
The Oakland Raiders get this selection from the Chicago Bears via the Khalil Mack trade.
Last year’s fourth overall pick Clelin Ferrell is already proving that the pick was a major reach. It does look like they did get good value with Maxx Crosby in the 4th round, but they still desperately need help in pass rush.
Draftblaster’s scouting report tells you why he’s a coveted a prospect: “Idea[l] edge rusher with the length, size, and athleticism that will make him a hit in any system. Evolving from a raw rusher that depended on athletic ability into a more polished technician that understands how to use power and speed interchangeably, he has seen his production go through the roof.”
Gross-Matos had 20 tackles for loss and eight sacks last season. This season he has 13.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks through 10 games.
