2020 NFL mock draft: Burrow or Young at No. 1? How far does Tua fall?
By Evan Bachman
Based on the Monday night game against the Chiefs, it’s obvious that Phillip Rivers can’t be the quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers for much longer. The Chargers would be a good spot for Tua. Having Rivers allows them to wait for him to fully ready to come back and not rush him back to play.
This would obviously be a risk for the Chargers with Tua’s injury, but the dividends, if Tua gets back to himself, would huge.
Tagovailoa’s draft stock will rely heavily on how his hip checks out. If teams believe it could affect the rest of his career they will take him off their board or at least stop considering him in the first round.
Despite the injury, teams can’t forget how good Tua is. Last year, he threw for 3,966 yards, 43 touchdowns and just six interceptions, while this year, he was on his way to putting up similar numbers before getting injured.
Staying healthy will obviously be key for him at the next level, but if he can, he has legitimate superstar potential. According to PFF, last year he had a deep grade of 97.3, an intermediate grade of 91.1, and was first among qualified returning quarterbacks with 31 big-time throws.
