2020 NFL mock draft: Burrow or Young at No. 1? How far does Tua fall?
By Evan Bachman
For a while it looked like the Jets would have a top-five, perhaps top-three selection, but that’s not the case anymore after they won three straight games.
The Jets have to get Sam Darnold some better weapons to work with. Right now, his receivers are Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder and a 31-year-old Demaryius Thomas. They made a big investment into Darnold, not only did they use the third pick in 2018 draft to get him, but they traded three second-round picks to trade up from six to get him.
Obviously, signing Le’Veon Bell hasn’t really moved the needle for this offense as they are 28th in the NFL in points per game at 17, according to nfl.com. So, using this pick to give Darnold some better weapons to work with is a necessity.
This season, Henry Ruggs III has 38 catches for 719 yards, good for 18.9 yards per catch, and seven touchdowns. He also has one rush for a 75-yard touchdown. Of those eight touchdowns, four were for 45 or more yards.
Ruggs has the speed to potentially challenge John Ross’ 40 yard dash combine record of 4.22. That type of speed is absolutely game wrecking and is the type of player that makes defensive coordinators lose sleep over.
