Fifth pick

Shyheim Carter. 110. 87. Pick Analysis. CB. Alabama. Scouting Report. player

The Carolina secondary needs an injection of youth, and Shyheim Carter out of Alabama is the fit they need to complement aging safeties Eric Reid and Tre Boston. Carter is a safety/nickel-corner hybrid player with great coverage skills and decent run-defending.

At 6’0″, 195 pounds, Carter will need to fill out more once he is in the league, and would have the opportunity to do so as a nickel-corner in Carolina. This length serves him well in underneath coverage when breaking on routes, and Carter does well setting the edge against run plays.

Carolina needs youth in their secondary, and Carter is a quality ‘pass-first’ corner who can make an impact year one. As Carter’s career moves on, he will also begin to fill out his frame and transition into an even better run defender.
