Fourth pick

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 78. player. RB. Boston College. A.J. Dillon. 87

Christian McCaffrey needs help, and it is more than obvious. This kind of workload can not be placed onto a single back without longterm consequences (as spoken on by Le’veon Bell), which is why Carolina will be drafting his ‘assistant’ of sorts, Boston College power back A.J. Dillon.

Dillon measures in at 6’0″, 245 pounds, reminding many of former Panthers running back Mike Tolbert. The Panthers’ former running game revolved around the motto “Keep Pounding” with running backs Johnathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert. Tepper’s modern revival of the phrase will just be MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey and young A.J. Dillon.

Dillon is a powerful runner who uses his respectable top-end speed with size to go through opponents. This footwork is enough to manipulate angles and make cuts, but will not make his way around a significant portion of blockage. Dillon has great vision from his short-yardage use, and can also bring a dimension of full-back to the roster, as listed on his draft report.
