After the firing of head coach Ron Rivera, owner David Tepper and the Carolina Panthers look to move in a new direction, which will start at the draft.

In a generally tumultuous 2019 campaign, the Carolina Panthers have fallen to 5-7, losing their last four games. Star quarterback Cam Newton went down early with injuries, but Panthers fans have been pleasantly surprised by the emergence of former undrafted quarterback Kyle Allen and the MVP performance of Christian Mccaffrey.

David Tepper has assumed the title of owner for Carolina at a steep price tag of $3 billion but looks to revive the Panthers culture as he has with many of his Wall Street business ventures. The first step in this new direction was the firing of popular head coach Ron Rivera, doing so earlier rather than later for a more professional, ‘friendly’ exit for the long-tenured head coach.

The 2020 NFL Draft is the most important for Carolina since 2011 when the team selected Cam Newton number one overall to lead their franchise. The key difference between then and now is the current talent throughout the roster, from Christian Mccaffrey to Luke Kuechly.

Carolina will look to move in a new direction, and this mock draft will be based around the prediction of Carolina retaining Cam Newton (who is now healthy) and trading Kyle Allen to the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2020 3rd round selection and 2021 6th round selection. This trade is highly speculative but I wanted to adjust for what is a likely trade for this team.
