2020 NFL Draft: Could Alabama’s Jedrick Wills be OT1 in this class?
Could Alabama right tackle Jedrick Wills be the best offensive tackle in the entire 2020 NFL Draft class? We take a look at the possibility.
Tis the season for intriguing 2020 NFL Draft takes, apparently.
In his first 2020 NFL Mock Draft of the mock season over at The Athletic, NFL Draft analyst and expert Dane Brugler has Alabama offensive tackle Jedrick Wills going third overall to the Washington Redskins.
No, the top two picks were not Andrew Thomas of Georgia and Tristan Wirfs of Iowa. As a matter of fact, they weren’t included in the top three picks at all.
Jedrick Wills was the top offensive tackle off the board in Brugler’s mock draft, a pick he said would probably surprise people.
If you subscribe to The Athletic and have been following along to Brugler’s takes, you know that he’s been high on Wills for a while now. He hasn’t had him as his OT1 on any rankings I’ve seen yet, but apparently that’s about to change.
Still, Wills was as high as 11th on one of Brugler’s boards and he’s been climbing up everyone else’s board with his play of late for the Crimson Tide.
Wills is a junior who plays right tackle for the Tide, but he’s been absolutely overpowering as a run blocker. He’s also has sweet feet in pass protection and is showing some excellent refinement in technique and understanding of how to block stunts, keep a wide base, and use his top-flight core strength to keep defenders at bay.
Brugler’s not the only one high on Wills, either. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah recently stated that the Alabama stud is a ‘Top 20’ prospect.
This is a great draft class to need an offensive tackle, apparently. If Wills is truly in contention for the title of OT1 of this class, he has some seriously great company in Georgia’s Andrew Thomas and Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, both of whom have OT1 athleticism, traits, and production.
Good offensive tackle play is tough to come by these days so the demand for all three of these guys, should they all declare themselves eligible, will be extremely high.
