2019 NFL All-Rookie Team: The Faces of the Future
By Ian Higgins
Deandre Baker, CB, New York Giants
So far in 2019, Deandre Baker has shown why he was a top corner coming out of college. The Giants have had a mostly unimpressive defense this season, but Baker has shown promise as a starting cornerback for the future. Baker has been able to physically match many of his opponents, and already possesses the technique early in his career.
Byron Murphy, CB, Arizona Cardinals
Cornerback Byron Murphy has started every game for the Arizona Cardinals this season, and has played as a starting cornerback should even as a rookie. Cornerbacks often have a sharp learning curve when entering the league, now facing opponents who have both the physical prowess and ability to gain separation. Murphy has paired well across from a struggling Patrick Peterson and been a bright spot on the Arizona defense.
Darnell Savage Jr, S, Green Bay Packers
As part of Green Bay’s defensive rebirth, rookie safety Darnell Savage has had 34 tackles, four passes defended, and two interceptions.
Green Bay’s defense has been a major improvement over the atrocities of past years and has become more explosive with the addition of Savage. As the name implies, Savage is able to fly and provide a unique spark to this team.
Juan Thornhill, S, Kansas City Chiefs
The 2019 safety class has not brought about many solidified stars after the injury of Johnathan Abram, but Juan Thornhill has continued to make strides to change that opinion.
Throughout the past few weeks, Thornhill has become a key cog in an aspiring Kansas City defense, increasing his snap count week after week. Thornhill has also been involved in numerous major plays in big games for the Chiefs, being targeted more often as the unknown rookie.
