Now I know what most have you must have been thinking to this point. Five picks and not a single one on the defensive side of the ball? That’s where the Dolphins are struggling the most!

This is true. But you have to lock in your franchise quarterback when you have the chance. When you bring in a rookie quarterback who will be expected to turn your entire franchise around, you need to give him all the pieces he needs in order to succeed. Sure, a solid defense would help a lot, too. But I think Tua would rather have top-tier protection and weapons to work with on offense than some secondary help on the other side of the ball.

Lucky for the Dolphins. They still have a TON of picks left in this draft, and another draft full of picks in 2021 that they could use on the defensive end to help further their rebuild. But after five offensive players selected in the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins finally switch their attention to the other side of the ball.

player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Florida. C.J. Henderson. 68. 59. Cornerback

This one may be the least realistic pick of this mock draft. If this did, indeed, come to fruition, I think it has potential to be the absolute steal of the draft. Although their are mixed feelings about C.J. Henderson as an NFL prospect, he certainly has the talent and potential to warrant a selection here at the complete latest.

Some evaluators have grades on Henderson that place him in the top half of the first round. Others question whether he will actually be able to contribute at all at the next level. Henderson is a physical freak with tons of raw talent who needs to develop his technique and fill in his frame to be effective at in the NFL.

He has a great frame, great ball skills and loads of potential. I’m sure he will test well at the combine and has the production at Florida to impress scouts. He will just have to put it all together in order to succeed in the league.

With such a talented player falling so late in the draft, the Miami Dolphins can afford to take a chance on his potential. If he develops into what many think he can be, C.J. Henderson will slot in across from Xavien Howard to form one of the most dynamic young cornerback duos in the NFL.

Pick Analysis. Edge Rusher. LSU. Michael Divinity Jr.. Scouting Report. 149. player. 59

That’s right. After having six picks in the first 68 selections, the Dolphins don’t have another scheduled until pick 149. Here they address a need at pass rusher with a talented and versatile, yet unproven prospect out of LSU in Michael Divinity Jr.

Divinity has filled multiple different roles in the Tigers defense. While he has seen time as more of an off-ball linebacker, Divinity projects better as a 3-4 edge rusher. He totaled four sacks in 2018 and has 3.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss in just five games played this year.

Divinity has not played much this season in what appears to be an odd situation in the LSU locker room. He missed two weeks “to focus on a personal matter” and has now missed a total of seven games due to coach’s decisions”. LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said that the earliest Divinity would return would be the National Championship Game, so should LSU make it, Divinity may get to give scouts one last look at his talent prior to season’s end.

Scouting Report. Ohio State. 151. player. 59. Pick Analysis. Safety. Jordan Fuller

Jordan Fuller is a well-rounded safety who is second on an impressive Ohio State defense in tackles. With 53 total tackles so far on the 2019 season and 81 the year prior, it is clear that Fuller has a nose for the ball and is capable of breaking down and bringing down the ball carrier.

Fuller also has two interceptions and four pass break-ups this season. He is a quick and explosive athlete who makes good reads in zone coverage. He can also play man-to-man or blitz at the line of scrimmage. The Miami Dolphins are currently starting Walt Aikens and Eric Rowe at their two safety spots.
