2020 NFL Draft: How far does Tua Tagovailoa fall in first-round mock draft?
Derrick Brown has had a very impressive career at Auburn and is capping his career off with arguably his best season to date. As a senior, Brown just seems to get better and better every time he touches the field and affects the game in many different ways on the defensive side of the ball for the Tigers.
Brown is an incredibly versatile defensive tackle who can use his strength to be an anchor in the middle like a nose tackle and his speed evade blockers and get into the backfield. He gets off the ball quick and packs a powerful punch at the line of scrimmage. He has a variety of moves to shed blocks and make plays and has outstanding football IQ, making the right plays at the right times.
The Falcons defense has been awful this season. They have a lot of things that they need to address, but Brown would certainly help them in both run defense and rushing the passer. Putting him inside next to Grady Jarrett, the Falcons would immediately have one of the best defensive tackle pairings in the game.
Brown fits perfectly into Dan Quinn’s 4-3 scheme and if he’s still the head coach in Atlanta in April, this would undoubtedly be a pick that Quinn would love in the 2020 NFL Draft. Brown shows a ton of fight on every play. The way that he works to get better and leads on and off the field, he is a guy that every locker room wants to have.
With talented guys like Vic Beasley and Tak McKinley on the edge, Atlanta has the potential to be a very good defense. Pairing Brown with Jarrett in the middle makes a very formidable front. As a talented team that vastly underperformed this year, largely due to injuries, the Falcons could quickly turn things around and compete in the NFC next season with Brown wreaking havoc on opposing offenses.
