Georgia. player. Pick Analysis. Offensive Tackle. Andrew Thomas. 4. 58. Scouting Report

I’m sure most football fans have seen and heard the video of rookie Dwayne Haskins practically begging his offensive line to block for him. There is also about a negative ten percent chance that Trent Williams returns to Washington next season. The Redskins better bring in someone to protect their young QB if they want him to develop.

Here with the fourth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Skins find themselves in a great position to secure the best tackle prospect in the draft. Georgia’s Andrew Thomas is one of the most well-rounded tackles to come out of college in recent years. He is effective as a pass blocker and an absolute force in the running game.

Thomas leads a Georgia offensive line that has allowed just eight sacks through 11 games (third-best in the nation) and leads a run game that rushes for nearly 200 yards a game. Thomas has been instrumental in both aspects of the effective Georgia offense that has them currently in the top four in the College Football Playoff rankings.

With Haskins taking over under center, his former Ohio State teammate Terry McLaurin having a solid rookie season with a trio of quarterbacks this year and Derrius Guice finally seeing the field at running back, Washington has a decent little core of young players to build around on offense. Morgan Moses is solid at right tackle, but the Redskins miss Williams on the other side of the line.

Jerry Jeudy was considered here as well to give Haskins another weapon to throw to, but if he doesn’t have time to let his receivers get open it doesn’t matter who is out there running routes. Thomas fills a glaring need for Washington and would be a slam dunk pick for a new president/GM or for Bruce Allen trying to keep his job if he is still around in April for the 2020 NFL Draft.
