2020 NFL Draft: How far does Tua Tagovailoa fall in first-round mock draft?
Another well-rounded roster that could benefit from some fresh beef in the middle of their defensive line, the Patriots opt for Alabama defensive tackle Raekwon Davis with the penultimate selection of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Although the production has lacked a bit in college, Davis has the frame and tools to become an impactful player in the NFL. Who better to develop a player like that than Bill Belichick? Davis has a ton of length and strength with good body control but needs to develop better technique and athleticism to more easily shed blockers and make plays.
For the Patriots, Davis could sit and develop, contribute in spots, then take over in a larger role once he’s ready. If he turns into a solid force on the line, the Pats could move on from some of the older players that they have brought in to reinforce their defensive line over the past few years.
If the Niners are picking here, it means they won the Super Bowl. Clearly as a team in that mix right now, they have a roster without any glaring holes. While their offensive line is playing well this season, it never hurts to add a versatile and ferocious piece to beef up the inside.
Tyler Biadasz is the leader of one of the best offensive lines in college football. Biadasz uses his low center of gravity and wrestling background to dominate at the line of scrimmage, quickly packing a powerful punch and finishing the defender to the ground. He is great as a run blocker, solid in pass protection and instrumental in ensuring that the entire line is prepared pre-snap play after play.
While the 49ers offense is clearly playing well behind the line that they have this year, the interior of the San Francisco line is made up of some guys that were let go by other teams.
Center Weston Richburg found his way to the Niners after an unsuccessful stint with the Giants, as did left guard Laken Tomlinson after spending just two seasons in Detroit. Right guard Mike Person played for four different teams in four years before joining the Niners. I’m sure they would find a place for a guy like Biadasz to contribute right away and develop a plan for his future with the organization.
