2020 NFL Draft: How far does Tua Tagovailoa fall in first-round mock draft?
Like the Broncos in 2015/16, the Panthers got to Super Bowl 50 on the back of their stellar defense. With a prime Josh Norman shutting down opposing wide receivers, the rest of the defense could go to work and make plays. Since Norman left for Washington, Carolina has not found a true lockdown corner like that. Kristian Fulton can be that guy for the Panthers.
Fulton is a very physical man-to-man corner who can stay glued to any receiver and break up any pass that comes his way. He is great in press coverage, packing a good punch off the line and staying physical throughout the route. He is improving his instincts and ball skills in zone coverage and has the quickness to make up ground in a hurry to make a play.
Donte Jackson has played well for the Panthers, and some could argue that he is already that guy that they’ve been looking for since Norman left. I don’t think he’s quite a true lockdown corner at this point, but either way, you can never have too many good corners.
With Fulton on one side and Jackson on the either and Luke Kuechly covering essentially the rest of the field, the Panthers defense will be on their way to regaining their 2015/16 form. Last year’s first-round pick, Brian Burns, has been really good for Carolina as a pass rusher this season and here they try to hit on another defensive stud in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
